Reforestamos México and Partners for the Planet
15 diciembre, 2023
This year, the “Partners for the Planet” campaign, led by Nestlé, P&G, and Sam’s Club, has formed an alliance with Reforestamos México with the aim of achieving a significant impact on forest conservation by joining the “Better Alliances, Better Forests” initiative. This initiative seeks to strengthen territorial governance to ensure connectivity of natural resources surrounding cities.
Through this alliance, 12,250 trees of endemic species will be planted as follows; 4,200 trees in the State of Mexico, 4,200 trees in Jalisco, and 3,850 trees in Nuevo León.
Three reforestation events with volunteer participation were carried out, with approximately 40 people per venue. These efforts were made in priority peri-urban forests, which have lost more than 50% of their forest cover.
All planted trees will be monitored for the two years following their planting through maintenance actions carried out by the community forest brigade composed of people from the ejidos. This way, temporary job opportunities are generated, fostering the development of communities living in the forests.
These actions contribute to the restoration of degraded forest areas, providing forest cover, promoting the assurance of environmental services such as CO2 capture, water capture, and soil retention. Additionally, they promote the economic and social development of forest communities.
Through this alliance, 30 temporary jobs will be created for the people in the community forest brigades, with approximately 37 indirect beneficiaries 1.
Moreover, Partners for the Planet, through this alliance, will promote educational webinars for the general public. These webinars will address key topics such as environmental education, responsible consumption, pollinators, water and the city, forests, and climate change. The purpose of these discussions is to raise awareness among people about the importance of adopting more sustainable daily practices that contribute to environmental care. This aims to inspire people to take concrete actions for the care of the forest ecosystem and its resources.
The sessions, in addition to sensitizing on updated topics, promote reconnection with nature, inviting people to learn more about the environment and understand how our daily actions impact the environment. In urban environments, many people perceive nature as distant, resulting in a lack of knowledge about the importance of biodiversity and information on responsible consumption practices. Thanks to the partners for the planet campaign, it is possible to contribute to improving this trend by raising awareness and training a larger number of people, which, in turn, promotes sustainability and environmental protection.
Thanks to the Partners for the Planet campaign, a higher number of people will be trained, promoting environmental education and awareness.
