Reforestamos México recognizes the work of its allies in 2023 in favor of the forests

Reforestamos México acknowledged the work that allied organizations, institutions, and companies carried out during 2023 to build nature-based solutions benefiting forests and their inhabitants.
Within the framework of the activities of the Annual Event 2023, Ernesto Herrera, CEO of Reforestamos México, along with directors from various areas of the organization, shared the most relevant achievements of the year and thanked the alliances that allowed them to continue their work in ensuring the forests and jungles that Mexico needs for its sustainable development.
Among the main achievements of 2023 that Reforestamos México shared with its allies are transparency, entrepreneurship, and investment agendas in the forests, ecosystem connectivity, urban tree planting, and private sector involvement, which gained prominence in various national and international fields.
Maria Isabel Ortiz Mantilla, Secretary of Environment and Territorial Planning of the Government of the State of Guanajuato, and a special guest at the event, shared a few words with all the attendees. She mentioned, “Our forests are our lungs, our water factories, our little microclimates in the face of an increasingly important temperature increase; they are our lifelines against climate change… do not just be spectators, be protagonists, and make a difference so that more people join every day for the Mexican forests, which ultimately provide a service to the entire planet.”
Reforestamos México awarded four special recognitions to individuals and institutions that stood out for their commitment and work for the forests in 2023: Citizen Mobilization 2023:
- H-E-B, through its rounding-up campaigns, allows positioning the forest cause with its employees and customers to collectively carry out various actions contributing to the conservation and restoration of the forests.
- Leadership for the Forests 2023: Agua Capital, for its strategy to promote the conservation and protection of forests to contribute to water security in the Valley of Mexico.
- Spokesperson for the Cause 2023: TikTok LATAM and makesense Americas, who, through their “Creators of Tomorrow” program, have promoted Reforestamos México initiatives through the TikTok platform and have encouraged the creation of a community with around 150 content creators who join in spreading the cause of Reforestamos.
- Ally of the Year 2023: Linde and Salesforce, for their commitment to supporting the Reforestamos agenda. With Linde, work has been done for over 10 years, promoting restoration actions that have become more robust each year. The collaboration with Salesforce enables supporting and strengthening forest enterprises.
Finally, Ernesto Herrera shared six commitments through which Reforestamos México seeks to ensure more and better forests to promote sustainable
- Promote public commitment to transparency in information and people’s participation to build coherent public policies that facilitate integrated landscape management and provide certainty to the future of forests and the benefits they provide to people.
- Empower local groups in rural and urban environments to take actions and strategies that strengthen natural connectivity in strategic areas, in order to maximize the provision of environmental services and the resilience of the population to climate change.
- Connect entrepreneurial individuals with opportunities that contribute to strengthening their enterprises, with the aim of diversifying livelihoods that guarantee the quality and connectivity of forest ecosystems.
- Promote leadership, collaborative participation, and commitment from the private sector to integrate forests as key nature-based solutions into their ESG strategies with clear and transparent KPIs.
- Recognize, publicize, and support initiatives that contribute to positioning the importance of trees and forests in public opinion to encourage multisectoral participation in our agenda.
- Promote Latin American multisectoral collaboration based on our work, learnings, networks, and alliances where we participate to contribute to the future of the region’s forests.
